Our Protection Program

At United Safe Environment Creators (USEC), we believe that everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and supported. We know that children, women, and young people in Kakuma refugee camp and Kalobeyei settlement face many risks—from abuse, early marriage, and violence to challenges in accessing sexual and reproductive health information. That is why we put all of this work together under one Protection Program.

What We Do
Child Protection (CP): We work with families and communities to protect children from abuse, neglect, and exploitation. We raise awareness about children’s rights and refer vulnerable children to services when they need more support.
  • Child-Friendly Spaces: We provide safe spaces where children can play, learn, and receive psychosocial support. These spaces are integrated with a social and emotional learning (SEL) component to meet children’s social, cognitive, physical, and emotional needs, helping them thrive in schools and communities.
Gender-Based Violence (GBV): We speak openly about GBV, challenge harmful practices, and create safe spaces where women and girls can share, heal, and rebuild. When someone experiences violence, we make sure they know where to find health, psychosocial, and legal help.
Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH): We provide safe spaces and peer education on sexual and reproductive health—including menstrual hygiene, healthy relationships, and preventing HIV and STIs. We connect adolescents and survivors to health partners who can give them the services they need.

How We Work
We focus on four things (EPRA):
  • We Educate communities about their rights and health.
  • We Prevent abuse and violence by raising awareness and creating safe spaces.
  • We Refer survivors and vulnerable people to partners who can provide specialized services.
  • We Advocate for change, working with leaders, youth, and partners to build safer communities.

Why This Matters
Every day, we see how cuts in aid and rising challenges increase risks for families in Kakuma refugee camp and Kalobeyei settlement. That is why we stand with our community to make sure children, women, and youth are not left behind. Together, we create safer environments where everyone can live with dignity and hope.
